Kenya Airways (KQ, Nairobi Jomo Kenyatta) inducted its first B737-800(SF) into revenue service at the beginning of February 2024, with approximately two weeks later than originally planned.
The carrier took delivery of its first -800(SF) in November 2023, but only ferried 5Y-KCA (msn 29884) from Bangor International via Manchester International and Cairo International to Nairobi Jomo Kenyatta over the course of January 17-19, 2024. ADS-B data shows the aircraft entered revenue service on February 2 and is currently deployed out of Nairobi on various medium-haul routes, including to Harare International, Lusaka, and Sharjah. Kenya Airways initially hoped to deploy the new type freighter into commercial service last month.
The 21.9-year-old jet is leased from GA Telesis and Kenya Airways is its first operator post P2F conversion, the ch-aviation fleets module shows.
Kenya Airways' existing freighter fleet consists of two B737-300(SF)s.
