Global Airlines (Iraq) has bought two A321-200s from AFG Aviation Ireland, a wholly-owned subsidiary of AFG Air Finance, ahead of the planned launch of Hajj and Umrah charters later this year.
The lessor identified the aircraft as YI-BBA (msn 6399) and YI-BBC (msn 3458). While the former was previously reported as headed to Global Airlines, the second unit is a new addition to the start-up's fleet.
The 9.2-year-old ex-avianca airlines YI-BBA was registered in Iraq on February 2, 2024. In turn, the other aircraft - a 15.9-year-old, ex-Nordwind Airlines jet, remains registered in Bermuda. Both A321s remain parked at Cairo International airport for maintenance.
Global Airlines did not disclose any detailed plans beyond saying it would focus on religious traffic. It was incorporated in 2021.
