Systematic Aviation Services (Kuala Lumpur Subang) will manage and operate Malaysia's only amphibious aircraft after Textron Aviation delivered a Cessna (single turboprop) 208B Grand Caravan EX to Malaysian property developer, Ikhasas Sdn Bhd, via its subsidiary company, Oriental Sky Sdn Bhd. Textron confirmed the delivery in a February 17, 2024, statement.
The 11-seater N9006N (msn 208B5751) will ferry passengers between Kuala Lumpur and an Ikhasas-developed resort on the Perhentian Islands off Malaysia's east coast. Until now, the trip has taken seven hours by road and sea.
"This will be the country’s first amphibious airplane operation in recent history after it gained necessary approvals from the Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia to launch domestic operations in 2024," the statement reads. Textron says its aircraft, which include the Beechcraft and Cessna Aircraft Company brands, constitute over 40% of Malaysia's general aviation aircraft.
Systematic Aviation Services has a 30-year-plus history as a local MRO provider for government and privately owned rotary and fixed-wing aircraft. The company's Malaysian air operator's certificate permits it to operate commercial air transportation services under Regulation 110 of the country's Civil Aviation Regulations (2016). The AOC-type does not allow Systematic to operate scheduled commercial flights.
