TransNusa (8B, Jakarta Soekarno-Hatta) is recasting itself as a full-service airline, which it says is a result of new ownership, a new business strategy, and changing passenger preferences.

One of 11 scheduled carriers based in Indonesia, TransNusa was sold in 2022 to investment fund PT Panca Global International Indonesia (51%) and Singapore-based holding company Linkasia Airlines Group Ltd (49%) after suspending operations in 2020 due to Covid-19. It relaunched in October 2022 with a new management team and a shift in focus from low-cost domestic operations to a regional intra-Asian operator offering a more mid-market product.

"Since the takeover, TransNusa has been aggressively implementing plans that set the airline apart from other low-cost carriers through the comfort and flexibility offered as a premium service carrier," TransNusa Group CEO Bernard Francis explained in a statement on February 19.

He added: "Last year, we expanded our operations to include international routes and became the second Indonesian airline to fly into China. We have also ensured that all our flights will be departing and arriving at only major international airports."

ch-aviation has contacted TransNusa for comment.

TransNusa's fleet of four A320-200s, two C909s, and one BAe 146-100 fly to six destinations in four countries from its Jakarta hub, including Guangzhou, Denpasar, Johor Bahru, Kuala Lumpur International, Singapore Changi, and Yogyakarta International.
