Thai Airways International (TG, Bangkok Suvarnabhumi) will lease three new B787-9s from Air Lease Corporation, which will be delivered to the company in 2025 from the lessor’s order book with Boeing.
This will be the first leasing agreement between the two parties, according to the ch-aviation fleets module.
The aircraft are in addition to Thai Airways’ order for forty-five B787-9s and a further 35 options, announced in February 2024, and are part of the carrier’s long-term aircraft acquisition plan under a ten-year timeframe between 2024 and 2033. The recently placed order includes an option to convert some B787-9s to B777-9s, which was not previously reported.
While the ultimate goal of Thai Airways is to add about 90 new widebody airframes, some of these jets will be delivered through leasing agreements and arrive at the company by the end of 2025.
The airline’s fleet currently comprises 70 aircraft, namely twenty A320-200s, three A330-300s, seventeen A350-900s, five B777-200ERs, seventeen B777-300ERs, six B787-8s, and two B787-9s. It leases 47 aircraft from 14 leasing companies.
