GlobalX (G6, Miami International) has reached an agreement with Xtreme Aviation Holding LLC, owner of start-up 7 AIR, to sell its rights for an undisclosed sum to finance and build an all-new MRO hangar facility at Fort Lauderdale International.
"This transaction is consistent with our strategic shift to direct all efforts to rapidly growing our core passenger and cargo charter business," Ryan Goepel, president and chief executive at GlobalX, told ch-aviation.
Xtreme Aviation said on May 20 that it would expand its hangar facilities with the new MRO capabilities at Fort Lauderdale, with the facility to be unveiled by the third quarter of 2025 and adding between 300 and 400 employees to its workforce. The company currently has a hangar facility at Miami Opa-Locka.
The new facility will be constructed in partnership with aviation development firm Sheltair Aviation Services. It will span 70,000 square feet (6,500 sqm), accommodate up to three aircraft simultaneously, and be equipped with a separate wash rack and ramp space for additional line maintenance, modification, and drop-in work.
Broward County Aviation Department is currently reviewing the agreement.
Global Crossing Airlines Group reached an agreement to finance and construct the MRO facility last year at an approximate cost of USD25 million. However, this is the latest plan to be dropped by the company, which recently abandoned its aspirations to add widebody aircraft, suspended the certification of its Colombian cargo subsidiary GlobalX Colombia, and cut its fleet growth plan by 15 aircraft over the next two years.
