SkyWest Airlines (OO, St. George Municipal) will start scheduled commercial services with its first CRJ550s on behalf of Delta Connection on July 1, 2024, ch-aviation research has revealed.
The ch-aviation schedules module shows SkyWest Airlines will initially deploy them on four routes out of Salt Lake City for Delta Air Lines (DL, Atlanta Hartsfield Jackson), flying to Butte (1x daily), Cedar City (5x weekly), Elko (1x daily), and West Yellowstone (1x daily).
Earlier this year, SkyWest’s chief commercial officer, Wade Steel, confirmed the company would transition nineteen CRJ700s to CRJ550s this year, after they have completed their American Eagle contract with American Airlines.
"SkyWest looks forward to adding the CRJ550 to our Delta Connection operations on select Salt Lake City routes in July. The two-class CRJ550 replaces flying that was previously single-class to align with the Delta Connection experience customers have come to expect from Delta," the company told ch-aviation in a statement.
The CRJ550 is a scope-restricted 50-seater CRJ700 featuring a smaller MTOW of 29,500 kgs instead of the -700's 34,000 kgs. The only other operator of the type is GoJet Airlines (G7, St. Louis Lambert International), flying under the United Express brand for United Airlines.
The ch-aviation fleets module shows that SkyWest Airlines’ fleet comprises 537 aircraft, including 129 CRJ200ERs, 122 CRJ700s, forty-four CRJ900s, and 242 E175s.
