Lufthansa Cargo (LH, Frankfurt International) has announced that it will launch its first freighter route from Munich, connecting the Bavarian capital with Istanbul Airport.

Flights are scheduled to begin on July 6, 2024, and will initially be operated 2x weekly with an A321-200(P2F) operated by Lufthansa CityLine (CL, Munich).

"For our southern German customers in particular, Munich Airport offers ideal conditions for the fast and reliable transportation of air freight, which ultimately also enables global business from another important European airport. With the launch of our cargo operations out of Munich, we are laying the foundation for aligning our network even more closely with the needs of our customers in the future and continuing to manage it flexibly," Lufthansa Cargo CEO Ashwin Bhat said.

Currently, all four A321-200(P2F)s operated by Lufthansa Cityline on behalf of Lufthansa Cargo are based out of Frankfurt International, where they feed the carrier's fleet of eleven in-house B777-200Fs. Six B777-200Fs operated by AeroLogic (3S, Leipzig/Halle), a joint venture with DHL Express, which are marketed by Lufthansa Cargo, also operate out of Frankfurt (while the remaining sixteen operate on behalf of DHL Express out of Leipzig/Halle).

Lufthansa's freight traffic at Munich airport is currently served by bellyhold capacity through various Lufthansa Group carriers. The company also maintains an extensive road feeder service (RFS) network into the Bavarian hub.
