Maersk Air Cargo (DJ, Billund) has taken delivery of the first its two B777-200Fs on order from Boeing.
OY-MAC (msn 67867) was handed over to the cargo carrier on July 11, 2024, and ferried from Everett via Moses Lake, Greenville/Spartanburg International, and Bangor International to Billund on July 11-13.
Maersk Air Cargo owns the freighter and expects to take the second later this quarter. The two B777s will complement the Danish airline's existing fleet of B767 freighters which, the ch-aviation fleets module shows, comprises five B767-200(ERBDSF)s, four B767-200(PC)s, one B767-200(SF), five B767-300ER(BDSF)s, and two B767-300Fs.
Parent company A.P. Moller - Maersk said in its first quarter report that air cargo has started rebounding after almost two years of continuous decline, with global volumes growing by 4-5% compared to the first quarter of 2023. Maersk itself posted a much faster air freight growth of 52% between the first quarter of 2023 and the first quarter of 2024.
Maersk Air Cargo set up a British subsidiary, Maersk Air Cargo UK, earlier this year, but has yet to complete its certification in the country.
