The government of Canada will invest CAD6 million Canadian dollars (USD4.3 million) in Air North (4N, Whitehorse International) to renew its fleet and expand its infrastructure, Brendan Hanley, member of Parliament for Yukon, announced on Monday.
The loan will support the airline's addition of a newer B737-800 to its fleet, the purchase of tools and spare parts for maintenance, and the construction of a larger 52,800-square-foot (4,905 sqm) hangar. The company took delivery of its first B737-800 in October last year, as part of efforts to rejuvenate its jet fleet, which has relied extensively on ageing B737 Classics.
"Our jet fleet renewal is a significant step that ensures we can continue to provide a great product at a fair price for years to come. This project will strengthen the Yukon’s economy", said Joe Sparling, president and chief executive at Air North.
The ch-aviation fleets module shows that Air North’s fleet comprises 11 aircraft, namely one ATR42-300(F), one ATR42-300(QC), one ATR42-320, one ATR42-320(QC), one B737-400, four B737-500s, and two B737-800s. The Boeing-manufactured classics average 32.1 and 31.5 years of age, respectively.
