airBaltic (BT, Riga) has firmed up options for ten incremental A220-300s, increasing its total commitment for the type to 90.
"Over the years, this aircraft type has proven its operational capabilities and value - it has been the backbone of our operations and has played an integral role in the international success story of airBaltic," chief executive Martin Gauss said.
Being the world's only all-A220 carrier, airBaltic currently operates forty-eight A220-300s. Before converting the options, it already had 32 more on firm order from Airbus. The first two of these, part of the initial order for 50, are due by the end of 2024. Deliveries of the remaining 40 - including the now firmed options - are set to begin in 2026 and conclude by 2030.
The Latvian flag carrier has ten more A220-300 purchase rights. Earlier this year, it also issued a Request for Proposals for up to twenty aircraft of the type from lessors. airBaltic said it would not comment publicly on the RFP and would "inform the media accordingly" once it has news to share.
