Azman Air (AZM, Kano) has suspended all operations tentatively until October 2024 and furloughed all but eight staff members as all of its aircraft are currently in maintenance.
"Two of our aircraft are in [scheduled] maintenance, and three are due for C-check, and that's why we suspended our domestic operation. Our aircraft will be back in October. The overhead is heavy so the management decided to put the company on hold," spokesman Nurudeen Aliyu told local media.
The Nigerian airline restarted operations in early April 2024 after an eight-month gap. At that time, it was operating a single active B737-300, 5N-YSM (msn 28557), on domestic routes out of Kano. The aircraft has been parked at Kano since May 22, according to Flightradar24 ADS-B data. Azman Air restarted operations after another brief pause in early June, using its only A340-600 5N-AAM (msn 765) to run Hajj charters on behalf of Air Peace (P4, Lagos) until July 5. It has been parked at Kano since then, however.
The airline's fleet also includes another B737-300 in storage since March 2024 and four B737-500s in storage since 2023 or before.
Following the suspension of operations, the airline decided to furlough - without pay - all employees except for eight managers starting August 1, 2024.
