The managing director and CEO of state-owned Biman Bangladesh Airlines (BG, Dhaka) has been transferred to the Ministry of Public Works following reports he had failed to turn up for work after the toppling of the Sheikh Hasina-led government on August 5, 2025. Jahidul Islam Bhuiyan was given his transfer orders on August 15, 2024, after just three months in the job holding both roles.

According to Dhaka news outlets, Bhuiyan and other senior executives had been making themselves scarce at Biman's HQ following the change of government and the accompanying civil unrest. Bhuiyan was considered a "ministerial official" aligned with the Hasina government and there are reports all such officials at Biman will leave, or already have. "It is known that they are in hiding for fear of facing public anger from the employees," one outlet reported.

Meanwhile, Dhaka's Daily Star newspaper reports that a syndicate within Biman Bangladesh Airlines manipulated ticket prices on the Dhaka - Kuala Lumpur International sector between April and May 2024, causing ticket prices to almost quadruple and severely impacting the mostly migrant workers who fly the route.

It is alleged the syndicate blocked seats on the flights and made them available to just 14 of the 480 registered Biman Bangladesh travel agencies and allowed those favoured agents to retail the tickets at inflated prices, often well beyond the means of the workers. Another outlet, the Dhaka Tribune, identifies the syndicate members as Biman's acting director of marketing, Mohammad Salahuddin; Jahidul Islam Bhuiyan's predecessor, Shafiul Azim (who is now the Secretary of the Election Commission); Biman's commercial manager Golam Mostofa; Biman's assistant commercial manager Farhana Akhter, and Biman's deputy operations control manager Tobibur Rahman.

The named travel agencies are Gemini Travels Ltd, Safa Travels and Tourism, East West Travels and Tours (Pvt), Kazi Air International (Pvt), Valencia Air Travels and Tours, Xpress Travel Holidays, Travel Zone, Seri Mechan Travel, Triplover Limited, Sunshine Travel Air International, Flyover Tours and Travels, Sadia Travels, Globe Travel Service (Bangladesh), and Travelchamp Limited.ch-aviation does not say the Biman officials or travel agents are corrupt, only that they are named.

The Ministry of Public Administration has not named Bhuiyan's replacement in the top job at Biman Bangladesh.
