The government of the British Virgin Islands has urged interCaribbean Airways (JY, Providenciales) to accelerate its efforts “to rectify inadequate service levels provided to travellers,” after complaints of delays, cancellations and other service-related issues.
interCaribbean Airways declined to comment on the matter. According to the island government, airline officials have attributed the disruptions primarily to technical difficulties with their aircraft and ongoing staffing problems but pledged to resolve the issues.
Last year, the airline suffered from similar staffing issues during the summer season and published a statement saying it was making "every effort to mitigate future disruptions" after the Guyana government warned it of possible sanctions.
The ch-aviation fleets module shows that the interCaribbean Airways fleet comprises 21 aircraft, namely six ATR42-500s, one ATR72-500, one DHC-6-200, ten E120s, and three E145s. It also wet-leases in one CRJ700 Srs 702 from CemAir. About nine planes are currently grounded, including half the ATR42-500s and E120s.
The ch-aviation schedules module shows that interCaribbean Airways serves Tortola from Antigua, Dominica Melville Hall, San Juan Luis Muñoz Marin, and Santo Domingo Las Américas.
Additionally, interCaribbean Airways has been forced to cancel over 50 flights in August due to the impact of tropical storm Ernesto, the carrier announced on its website.
