The States’ Trading Supervisory Board (STSB), a committee of the States of Guernsey government, has met with the management of local carrier Aurigny Air Services (GR, Guernsey) to admonish it for the "unacceptable level of service" in recent months and urged it to build "full resilience within the fleet".
Since early 2024, the carrier has been repeatedly criticised for cancellations and delays, largely due to the protracted maintenance of its fleet.
"In fairness to Aurigny’s management, they took active steps when they were hit by disruption in the early months of the year. We then saw a marked improvement, with June and July seeing the sort of reliability and performance that we have been used to in the past. Unfortunately, the events of the past week [i.e. the cancellation of a flight from Exeter] have once again underlined there is still a lack of full resilience within the fleet," STSB President Peter Roffey said.
The carrier took delivery of the first of two newly dry-leased ATR72-600s in early August 2024, increasing its fleet of the type to four units. The aircraft replaced Aurigny's only jet, an E195, which was sold earlier this year. The fifth ATR72-600 is due to arrive by the end of August.
Aurigny Air Services also operates two Do228-212(NG)s on its local routes from Guernsey to Alderney and Southampton, the ch-aviation fleets module shows.
