As part of its campaign to woo investors to participate in a planned capital infusion of INR32.36 billion rupees (USD385.4 million), SpiceJet (SG, Delhi International) intends to unground 28 of its 36 grounded aircraft, practically doubling the size of its current operational fleet.
According to its plans, recently revealed in a September 6 presentation, the company plans to unground three B737-700s, two B737-700(BDSF)s, four B737-800s, three B737-900s, three B737-8s, and thirteen DHC-8-Q400s. However, the LCC did not disclose when it expects to restart operations with these planes.
The company’s operational fleet decreased from 94 aircraft (seven wet-leases, thirty-one Q400s, and fifty-six Boeing airframes) in 2020 to 28 as of June 30, 2024 (eight wet-leases, five Q400s and fifteen Boeing aircraft).
The ch-aviation fleets module shows that SpiceJet’s fleet currently includes 18 in-house active airframes (two B737-700s, two B737-8s, nine B737-800s, one B737-900ER, and four DHC-8-Q400s) and five wet-leases (two A320-200s from Sky Angkor Airlines and three B737-800s from BBN Airlines Indonesia).
SpiceJet has an order for 129 B737-8s.
The carrier was not immediately available for comment.
