Mahbub Ali, Bangladesh's former state minister for civil aviation and tourism, was arrested by Dhaka detectives on September 15, 2024, in connection with the shooting death of a hotel employee.

According to prosecutors, Awami League leaders, which included Ali, and activists allegedly opened fire in front of a school in Dhaka's Mirpur-10 district on July 18 during a period of civil unrest. Siam Sardar, a hotel employee returning home after work, was shot and killed. His father later filed a case against 114 individuals, including Ali.

Ali served as minister for civil aviation and tourism in Sheikh Hasina's fourth cabinet, formed after the 2018 general election and dissolved earlier this year. Prime Minister Hasina (also the Awami League political party leader) fled Bangladesh after resigning in early August.

Following a September 16 court hearing in Dhaka, Metropolitan Magistrate Md Mosharrof Hossain remanded Ali in custody.
