SpiceJet (SG, Delhi International) will commence seaplane flights in 2025, according to Managing Director Ajay Singh. The airline is partnering with De Havilland Canada, and Singh says the aircraft will operate 20 routes.

SpiceJet has previously operated amphibious aircraft between the Sabarmati riverfront in Ahmedabad and Kevadia but suspended those services after the onset of Covid-19.

“Seaplanes have the potential to transform India’s regional connectivity," Singh declared at a November 9 demonstration flight event. "We are taking concrete steps to bring seaplane operations to life in India once again."

SpiceJet's recent INR30 billion rupee (USD355.5 million) capital raising is bankrolling the seaplane venture, which is headed by Singh's daughter, Avani Singh. The company has locked in rights on multiple routes, including to Lakshadweep, Hyderabad, Guwahati, and Shillong.

SpiceJet says its partnership with de Havilland involves it providing engineering, technical, and logistical support to the aircraft manufacturer during seaplane trials at multiple locations. The airline says it will start flights once the required infrastructure is up and running.
