Lifeflight Australia (GDY, Brisbane Archerfield) has broken ground on its new facilities at Sunshine Coast airport, looking to almost triple its current hangarage space at the airport.
The new facility, valued at AUD18.5 million Australian dollars (USD12 million), will include three hangars with a combined area of around 1,500 square metres. They will replace the single hangar the company currently owns and will allow it to perform more maintenance tasks locally rather than at the company's main maintenance base at Brisbane Archerfield, increasing dispatch reliability.
The construction works are scheduled for completion by late 2025.
"The base will accommodate two AW139 helicopters and one Challenger 604 air ambulance jet, helping make LifeFlight's 24-hour response more efficient to meet the increasing demands from the Sunshine Coast, Wide Bay-Burnett, and South Burnett regions," the medevac and air ambulance specialist said.
Lifeflight Australia's fleet comprises eleven helicopters and four Challenger 604s. The jets are based out of Brisbane International and Townsville airports.
