Spirit Airlines (NK, Fort Lauderdale International) has filed a motion for an order authorising the sale and leaseback of four A321-200NX aircraft to JSA International U.S. Holdings, a unit of Jackson Square Aviation, during its ongoing Chapter 11 proceedings. While the transaction was pre-agreed in October 2023, it still needs to be approved by the US Bankruptcy Court.
All four aircraft are scheduled for delivery in the coming months directly from Airbus. The first of the four, N739NK (msn 12324), will be delivered to the airline on December 19, 2024. The other three are due to follow in February, March, and April 2025.
Spirit Airlines did not disclose the value of the transaction.
On December 11, Judge Sean H Lane accepted the request for an expedited hearing in light of the imminent delivery of the first of the four aircraft. The hearing will take place on December 17.
The ch-aviation fleets module shows that Spirit Airlines currently operates twenty-seven A321-200NX, all leased, from AerCap (16), Air Lease Corporation (seven), and Aviation Capital Group (four). The carrier's fleet also includes two A319-100s, sixty-four A320-200s, ninety-one A320-200Ns (including eight on lease from Jackson Square), and thirty A321-200s.
