American Jet (Argentina) (AJB, San Fernando, AR) has signed a Letter of Intent (LOI) with Santa Cruz, a province in Argentina's Patagonian region, to establish a hub in the region from which it plans to launch scheduled domestic and international operations.

The initial project, set to span three years, aims for commercial operations to commence in April or May 2025. While specific details have not been disclosed, it is likely that American Jet will base its operations at Rio Gallegos. From there, it plans to serve domestic destinations such as El Calafate, Ushuaia, Rio Grande Hermes Quijada, Neuquén, Puerto Madryn, San Julián, and Puerto Deseado. On the international front, the airline may launch a route from El Calafate to Santiago de Chile via San Carlos de Bariloche, as well as flying to Punta Arenas International from Río Gallegos.

The charter airline signalled its intention last October to enter the scheduled passenger market. It plans to acquire up to nine aircraft in the 50-to-100-seat range to operate regional scheduled routes.

American Jet was not immediately available for comment.

The ch-aviation fleets module shows that American Jet currently operates a fleet of five aircraft - one ATR42-320, one ATR42-600, one Do228-200, and two E145s. It also operates one Beech 1900D, one Learjet 60XR, one Learjet 31A(ER), and one Bell Helicopter 429.
