Wizz Air (W6, Budapest) has responded to claims by Carpatair (V3, Timisoara) regarding a court ruling by a Romanian court of appeal in Pitesti saying that the ruling was a “flawed judgment” by the court as it would not be the responsibility of the Romanian legal system to decide whether or not the discount scheme of Timisoara airport could be considered as illegal state aid. Wizz Air believes that the European Commission will eventually approve the discount scheme as being compliant with the Market Economy Investor principle given the huge increase in passenger numbers that the scheme has generated thanks to Wizz Air’s base at the airport.
