LATAM Airlines Group is looking to launch a new fifth-freedom route connecting Buenos Aires Ministro Pistarini with Miami International as it works to incorporate Argentina into its joint venture agreement with Delta Air Lines.

The new agreement, which follows the rapid liberalisation and adoption of open skies policies by Argentina, has already been submitted to the authorities for evaluation. It would be operated by LATAM Airlines as an extension of the carrier's Santiago de Chile-Buenos Aires service. The airline plans to launch a new daily service by the end of 2025, subject to government approval.

LATAM Airlines Argentina, which was closed in 2020 as a result of COVID-era group restructuring, and its predecessor LAN Argentina used to connect Buenos Aires with Miami using B767-300ER aircraft. The ch-aviation schedules module shows that currently Aerolíneas Argentinas serves the route up to 2x daily and American Airlines 3x daily.

The Argentinian aviation sector was liberalised in 2024, with the country signing new bilateral agreements with a number of neighbouring states and opening up the previously heavily regulated market. Among the changes promoted by the Ministry of Deregulation and State Transformation is a more liberal approach to air freedoms, including the fifth-, eighth, and ninth-freedoms.

Argentina has so far signed open skies agreements with Brazil, Chile, Uruguay, Paraguay, Peru, Ecuador, Canada, Panama, Mexico, Rwanda, Dominican Republic, Ethiopia, Qatar, Türkiye, and the United Arab Emirates.
