WestJet Group has completed the integration of Sunwing Airlines (Toronto Pearson) into the group, successfully unifying all narrowbody operations under WestJet (WS, Calgary).
This is the second airline consolidation that the Canadian group has completed in the last two years, after integrating all of Swoop (Hamilton, ON) in November 2023.
WestJet has now integrated all jet aircraft under a single air operator's certificate (AOC), including 16 former Swoop aircraft, another nine former Lynx Air aircraft, secured after that airline went out of business, and now the remaining planes from Sunwing Airlines. Now the company will undertake a cabin reconfiguration on these aircraft to the WestJet standard interior, with expected completion during 2025.
The ch-aviation data shows the former Sunwing, Lynx, and Swoop B737-800s and B737-8s have capacity for 189 passengers versus the 174 seating capacity of WestJet’s own B737-800 and B737 MAX fleets.
WestJet’s fleet comprises thirty-eight B737-700s, fifty-seven B737-8s, fifty-nine B737-800s, four B737-800(BCF)s, seven B787-9s, and forty-two DHC-8-Q400s operated by subsidiary WestJet Encore.
