Eagle Atlantic Airlines (Accra) has announced the launch of operations with effect from August 16. Speaking at Accra during the presentation ceremony for the airline's Air Operator's Certificate (AOC) by the Ghanaian Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA), CEO Dr Emmanuel Osei-Acheampong said his airline intended to fill the void left in the regional and international market left by Ghana Airways (Accra) and Ghana International Airlines (Accra). According to The African Aviation Tribune, initial operations are to involve flights to Freetown, Monrovia Roberts and Abidjan using an MD-82 (YR-OTN, msn 49119) wet-leased from Ten Airways (Bucharest Baneasa). Eagle Atlantic is a wholly Ghanaian-owned operator.
