El Al Israel Airlines (LY, Tel Aviv Ben Gurion) suspended its daytime service to Israel’s southern resort of Eilat J. Hozman on Tuesday, questioning the safety of new flight paths aimed at reducing exposure to potential attacks from militants in nearby Egypt. In a statement, the Israeli national carrier said the town's new landing and takeoff procedures, put in place on Monday, "did not meet international aviation safety standards." Owing to the growing instability in Egypt and the threat of Islamist attacks, Israel has been forced to occasionally rerouting some of its 3x daily inbound-Tel Aviv Ben Gurion flights so they do not skirt the Egyptian frontier – flight paths that aviation experts said forced planes to make steep turns. Nighttime flights, whose routing has not been changed, are unaffected. Neither Arkia Israeli Airlines (IZ, Tel Aviv Ben Gurion) nor Israir (6H, Tel Aviv Ben Gurion) has announced any similar changes to their respective schedules.
