Etihad Airways (EY, Abu Dhabi International) is reportedly keen on Jet Airways (Mumbai International) starting direct flights to Australia, The Sydney Morning Herald claims. In the report, Etihad chief executive James Hogan is said to have mentioned privately about his interest in Jet Airways launching direct services to Sydney Kingsford Smith and Melbourne Airport. Coming just a month after Air India (AI, Delhi International) launched direct Delhi International to Sydney & Melbourne flights, the move would also see Etihad and its portfolio of carriers challenging Singapore Airlines (SQ, Singapore Changi) which currently dominates the Australia - India market. Officials from airports including Sydney and Melbourne are also believed to have met Jet Airways executives to encourage the airline to fly to their airports. However, any Jet entry into the Australian market would put its codeshare agreement with Qantas (QF, Sydney Kingsford Smith) into jeopardy given the latter's alliance with Etihad's rival, Emirates (EK, Dubai International).
