FlySafair (FA, Johannesburg O.R. Tambo) has been forced to temporarily suspend ticket sales and cancel all of its flights for the foreseeable future after the North Gauteng High Court granted an urgent interdict. The new low-cost carrier division of Safair (FA, Johannesburg O.R. Tambo) had planned to launch up to four daily B737-400 flights between Johannesburg and Cape Town International from October 17. Comair (South Africa) (CAW, Johannesburg O.R. Tambo) and SkyWise (Johannesburg O.R. Tambo) had sought the interdict asking for the court to review the awarding of a license to operate scheduled passenger services to FlySafair. Comair feels that Safair is more than 25% controlled by foreign entities and therefore not legally allowed to operate domestic services in South Africa. Safair is rejecting these claims but is now prohibited from starting its FlySafair operation until the decision to grant it the scheduled license has been reviewed by the court.
