Africa World Airlines (AW, Accra) intends to begin flights to Brazil by the end of the first quarter of 2014 year as part of plans to cash in on the upcoming FIFA World Cup 2014 tournament due to be held there. “Because of our global ambitions, we should be there [Brazil],” AWA's Chief Operating Officer, Appigy Afenu told Ghana's Citi Business News. As a subsidiary of Hainan Airlines (HU, Haikou), AWA operates two E145s on a domestic Ghanaian network. The airline has mentioned plans to expand into Nigeria but so far, no further developments have been announced. Start-up Pison Airways (Accra) has also discussed plans to begin services to South America using a B757-200.
