Delta Air Lines (DL, Atlanta Hartsfield Jackson) is eyeing two gate slots at Dallas Love Field that American Airlines (AA, Dallas/Fort Worth) & US Airways (Phoenix Sky Harbor) are to relinquish as part of their anti-trust settlement with the US Department of Justice. However, the Dallas News says Delta could face obstacles over the move given that the DoJ stated that relinquished slots at Love Field among others would be intended for non-legacy low-cost carriers. Delta has urged the DoJ to consider all airlines, including those that serve small- and medium-sized communities, in the process for divesting airport slots and assets related to the proposed AA/US settlement. "Delta would like the opportunity to bid for slots and facilities at Washington National as well as Dallas Love Field, where it currently provides competition with daily nonstop flights to its international hub in Atlanta Hartsfield Jackson. Without gate access, Delta could no longer provide Love Field service," it claimed. The proposed settlement, announced on November 12, is awaiting approval by the Federal District Court in the District of Columbia as well as the judge overseeing American's bankruptcy proceeding. It includes a provision to divest slots and airport assets held by American or US Airways at several airports.
