BlueSky Airlines (Cayman Islands) (Grand Cayman Island) is a new Cayman Islands-based startup planning to offer scheduled flights to the Caribbean as well as Central and South America using a wet-leased Dash 8-400. The cayCompass newswire says the new carrier will only launch once all the requisite paperwork has been finalized. The first phase of the launch will target ad-hoc private business jet charters from Grand Cayman to accommodate corporate/wealthy customers on a Learjet 55 or Cessna Citation Ultra. BlueSky then plans to branch into the scheduled market but, contrary to many other Caribbean operators, does not plan to serve the United States. Instead, it will offer a British Virgin Islands - Grand Cayman - Costa Rica service initially with other potential destinations to include the Dominican Republic and Colombia. "BlueSky Holidays and BlueSky Cargo will be established to open up new sources of tourism, trade and commerce for the Cayman Islands and the wider Caribbean,” the company added in a press statement.
