Kenya Airways (KQ, Nairobi Jomo Kenyatta) CEO Titus Naikuni has paid a visit to the Ivorian capital, Abidjan, where he has held talks with his counterpart at Air Côte d'Ivoire (HF, Abidjan), chairman Abdoulaye Coulibaly. JeuneAfrique writes that among the issues discussed between the two parties were various forms of partnership with emphasis on routes they both operate on. No immediate deals were agreed to. As mentioned previously, West Africa has become an increasingly important area of focus for Africa's Big Five carriers: EgyptAir (MS, Cairo International) recently announced plans to push ahead with a new West African venture with Ghana's CiTylinK (Accra); South African Airways (SA, Johannesburg O.R. Tambo) has announced plans to establish a West African hub as part of its latest turnaround plans; Royal Air Maroc (AT, Casablanca Mohamed V) will reportedly partner the Gabonese government in relaunching their stalled partnership, Air Gabon International (Libreville Leon M'Ba). Ethiopian Airlines (ET, Addis Ababa International) is, at present, the only one of the lot to have walked the walk and established its Togolese subsidiary, ASKY Airlines (KP, Lomé).
