Solomons - Solomon Airlines (IE, Honiara) will terminate all flights to Balalae with effect from January 2, 2014. The Oceanian carrier says the move was brought on because of "substantial" outstanding arrears owed it by the agent stationed on the island. “We have been in talks with the agent to recover the arrears but there has been no conclusive outcome and we have no other choice but to refer the matter legally and take this action in the immediate term," Solomon Airlines’ General Manager Operations and Commercial, Gus Kraus, told the Solomon Starr News. Interviews with new prospective agents will be undertaken in the New Year. This is the second such time that Solomon Airlines has had to withdraw from Balalae. Solomon Airlines serves Balalae, an island of the Shortland Islands Group, from both Gizo and Honiara.
