TAME Ecuador (Quito International) has temporarily suspended its flights to Venezuela effective January 23, 2014. TAME operates a daily Caracas Simón Bolivar service from Quito International via Bogotá with its E170s. The Ecuadorian carrier took the unprecedented move after failing to secure payment from the Venezuelan government's Commission for the Administration of Currency Exchange (Comisión de Administración de Divisas - CADIVI) of USD43.17million owed in ticket-sale revenue. TAME General Manager Fernando Guerrero said flights would resume once the money owed has been repaid. Venezuela's airlines association chief Humberto Figuera told The Associated Press that the government owes carriers a total of USD3.3billion for January alone.
