Avianca (Bogotá) has grounded its fleet of Fokker 50s after one of the turboprops suffered an engine malfunction prior to take off from Cali bound for Tumaco on January 28. "After performing all the proper inspections and going through all the safety procedures, Avianca S.A. has taken the preventive decision to temporarily ground its F50 fleet. This preemptive security measure will allow Avianca S.A. and the engine manufacturer Pratt & Whitney to establish the causes of the event, and implement the necessary corrective measu res that will guaranty the aircraft's operational reliability," the airline said in a statement. The Colombian carrier said that it would deploy either its ATR72-600s or A320-200s to cover the equipment shortfall which will affect the following routes out of Bogotá: Armenia, Barrancabermeja, Cali, Yopal, Florencia Gustavo Artunduaga Paredes, Ibagué Perales, Manizales, Neiva, Pereira, Popayán and as well as the following flights out of Cali: Medellín José Maria Córdova, Pasto and Tumaco. According to the ch-aviation aircraft database, Avianca's F50s average 20.5 years of age and are all powered by PW127B motors.
