Saudia (SV, Jeddah International) is considering both the A380-800 from Airbus (AIB, Toulouse Blagnac) and the B777X from Boeing (BOE, Washington National) as part of an order for 50 new aircraft, set to include narrow body aircraft as well. Abdul Rahman Altayeb, vice president for maintenance at Saudia, said that the A320neo and the Boeing 737 MAX are being also being studied. “We will have to decide on purchasing the new aircraft before the end of the year,” he told Arab News. On the issue of the airline's ongoing privatization programme, Mr Altayeb revealed that in the wake of Saudi Airlines Catering's successful 2012 IPO which raised USD347million, plans for an IPO for its Cargo division this year were advancing. Saudia Aerospace Engineering Industries, the carrier's MRO division, is expected to go public in 2015, he added.
