Colombe Airlines (Ouagadougou) is to acquire a second aircraft, believed to be an MD-82, for use in launching its first international flights out of Bobo Dioulasso, Burkina Faso's second largest city, to Niamey, Bamako, Accra and Abidjan. The start-up launched domestic operations in October last year and currently uses an ATR42-300, CS-DTO (cn 95), leased from Portugal's Lease Fly (Cascais). In an interview with Burkinabe newspaper, Sidwaya Quotidien, Colombe's CEO, Pascal Tigahiré, said the launch of air services would help boost Bobo Dioulasso's economic profile given years of decline due in large part to civil wars in neighbouring Mali and Ivory Coast.
