Aer Lingus (EI, Dublin International) has revised a standing widebody order with Airbus (AIB, Toulouse Blagnac) to now include a mix of Airbus A350-900s and -900 Regionals, due for delivery between 2018 and 2020.

The Irish carrier had previously planned on ordering a combination of A330s and A350s with first deliveries due in 2015. According to AirTransportWorld, CEO Christoph Mueller justified the changes saying the A350, as it stands, offers greater performance capabilities than what the airline currently requires, hence the order for the -900 Regional.

Range concerns aside, Aer Lingus is also mulling the use of A321neo on transatlantic flights to the United States. The routes, which resumed recently, are currently operated using B757-200s wet-leased from Air Contractors (Dublin International).

At present, its widebody fleet includes three A330-200s and four A330-300s.
