Avatar Airlines (Las Vegas Harry Reid) has applied to the US Department of Transportation for a Certificate of Public Convenience and Necessity along with Interstate Scheduled authority. According to official documents seen by ch-aviation, the carrier has now relocated from Las Vegas Harry Reid to Boca Raton with Marvin Ruthenberg replacing the scandal-plagued Barry Michaels as airline CEO.
It intends to raise USD300million in private placement funding to acquire thirty B747-400s reconfigured with 539 seats in the main cabin and 42 business class seats for use on flights between San Francisco, Las Vegas Harry Reid, Honolulu, San Diego International, Phoenix Sky Harbor, Dallas/Fort Worth, Miami International, Orlando International, Tampa International, New York JFK, Philadelphia International, Chicago O'Hare, Los Angeles International and San Juan Luis Muñoz Marin.
The start-up also plans to redevelop its aircraft exteriors into flying corporate billboards with interiors to also feature advertisements.
Avatar traces its roots back to the now defunct Family Airlines (Las Vegas Harry Reid) which also planned to operate high-density LCC flights between Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Miami, and Newark in 1992. The airline never got airborne after failing to secure a go-ahead from the FAA. Three subsequent attempts to launch Avatar also failed.
