Aeroflot (SU, Moscow Sheremetyevo) flights from Moscow Sheremetyevo to the Crimean resort town of Simferopol have been moved from the international section of Sheremetyevo airport to the section reserved for domestic operations effective April 25. Despite heavy international condemnation, Russia moved to regularize its annexation of the peninsula from Ukraine earlier this month.

The airport said in a statement the move was made in accordance with a directive from the Border Service of the Russian Federation.

In a bid to boost the region's struggling economy, strongman Vladimir Putin has pushed his government to prepare legislation that would provide subsidies for airlines flying to Simferopol ahead of the busy summer season.
