VivaAerobus (Monterrey Mariano Escobedo) has officially embarked on its fleet renewal programme with the Mexican LCC set to gradually phase out its existing all-Boeing (BOE, Washington National) fleet of eighteen B737-300s in favour of 52 A320s.
The carrier deployed its first three A320-200s - cn 2157, cn 2210, and cn 2443 - into active service in April, with an additional two expected before year end. They are based out of the airline's Cancún hub and fly to México City International, Monterrey Mariano Escobedo, Veracruz, Tuxtla Gutiérrez International, Reynosa, Villahermosa and Torreón. Additionally, the aircraft operate from Mexico City to Reynosa and from Monterrey to Mazatlán.
By the end of 2016, the airline will have completed its fleet transition from Boeing to become an all-Airbus (AIB, Toulouse Blagnac) operator.
In October 2013, the LCC signed a purchase agreement for 40 A320neo and 12 A320ceo, representing the biggest aircraft order placed by a single airline with Airbus in Latin American history.
