Southern Airways Express (9X, Memphis International) will launch Madison, MS's first scheduled services with flights to Destin Executive beginning June 6. The 4x weekly service will operate onboard a Cessna (single turboprop) 208B. According to CEO Stan Little, the carrier intends to fill the void in the Southern US market left by the Delta Air Lines (DL, Atlanta Hartsfield Jackson) merger and the de-hubbing of Memphis International.
“Just a few years ago, Memphis International offered 16 nonstop flights per day to destinations on the Gulf Coast,” Little told the Mississippi Business Journal. “Today, they don’t offer one. Southern Airways is the only airline in the Greater Memphis area today offering nonstop service to the Gulf Coast.”
As a local service airline, Southern Airways Express serves nine cities in the Southern United States, with hubs in Memphis, Tennessee and Destin, Florida.
