SAS Scandinavian Airlines (SK, Copenhagen Kastrup) will terminate its Helsinki Vantaa to Geneva - its last remaining Finland - Europe direct route - with effect from Winter this year. According to CHECK-IN.dk, in line with plans to funnel its European-bound Finnish traffic through its Scandinavian hubs, SAS has already terminated eight Finnish summer seasonal routes from Helsinki with the exception of Split flights.
"In terms of economics, route adaptation for the Finnish market is a priority. It is more profitable for us to operate from the Norwegian, Swedish and Danish domestic markets which perform better. Therefore we prioritize our traffic program to their needs - from and within Scandinavia with focus on Scandinavian travelers," Trine Kromann-Mikkelsen, chief press officer at SAS, said.
Feeder flights from Helsinki into SAS' network will continue to be provided by its Blue 1 (Helsinki Vantaa) subsidiary.
