Air Berlin (1991) (Berlin Tegel) has withdrawn a lawsuit against Flughafen Berlin Brandenburg GmbH (FBB) after the two parties agreed an out-of-court settlement. In its claim filed in a Potsdam District court, the carrier had sought damages from FBB amounting to at least EUR48million (USD66million) caused by persistent delays in the opening of Berlin Brandenburg.
Both parties have agreed not to disclose details of the settlement.
The Etihad Airways (EY, Abu Dhabi International) subsidiary had intended to use the new airport as its main hub with effect from June 2012 only to postpone those plans after various shortcomings in the facility's construction and planning were discovered.
In January this year FBB CEO Hartmut Mehdorn, who ironically was head of Air Berlin when the legal proceedings were first filed, dispelled reports the new airport would open this year instead pointing to a possible launch in 2016.
