Korongo Airlines (Lubumbashi) has resumed normal domestic operations as of Saturday, June 7, 2014. CEO Christophe Allard said the decision to resume flights between Lubumbashi, Kinshasa N'Djili, and Mbuji Mayi was taken after parent Brussels Airlines (SN, Brussels National) gave it the go-ahead on condition it tightened its existing operating procedures. In addition, certain undisclosed "guarantees" were also obtained from the Congolese civil aviation authority (Régie des Voies Aériennes de la République Démocratique du Congo - RVA).
Last week, the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) condemned all of Congo's navigational aides as unserviceable.
In a statement issued on June 7, the RVA said all radio and visual aids installed throughout the country were now operating normally with routine maintenance now underway to ensure their continued operability.
The regulator also said it would expedite efforts to secure an aircraft capable of calibrating all existing ILS and VOR installations.
