Hummingbird Air (St. Croix Henry E. Rohlsen) has submitted an application to the US Department of Transportation for permission to operate scheduled flights between St. Croix Henry E. Rohlsen, US Virgin Islands, and Dominica Cane Field in Dominica via St. Maarten.
The start-up argues that a recent decision by Antiguan operator, LIAT (Antigua and Barbuda) (Antigua), to discontinue flights between the islands had adversely affected the airline's parent firm.
"It is also difficult for visitors to make same day flight connections to Dominica, where the owner of the airline operates a hotel. Hummingbird Air is seeking to provide reliable, scheduled passenger and cargo connections to these two islands," it said.
Hummingbird intends to operate a fleet of three Beech 99s. It currently already operates one of the aircraft offering on demand charter services.
