VicFalls Airways (Harare International) has secured its Air Services Licence (ASL) from the Zimbabwean Ministry of Transport amid plans to make an international début later this year.
“The company, which already has a B767-200(ER) aircraft going through a major maintenance check at ICAO!FVHA, will offer 2x weekly direct flights to London Gatwick (United Kingdom), Guangzhou (China) and Johannesburg O.R. Tambo (South Africa)," it said in a statement.
Previous plans to commence operations using a B767-200(ER) leased from Arrivair (Miami International) never materialized after repeat attempts to secure adequate funding failed.
The start-up has reportedly secured traffic rights for domestic flights as well as operations to Dubai International, India, South Africa, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Malawi, Zambia, Botswana, and Mozambique.
Zimbabwe has been without direct flights to its former colonial master, the United Kingdom, since local operator, Air Zimbabwe (UM, Harare International), encountered financial troubles in 2012. Earlier this month, it was announced that the only European carrier to serve the country, KLM Royal Dutch Airlines (KL, Amsterdam Schiphol), will terminate its Amsterdam Schiphol - Harare International - Lusaka - Amsterdam service effective October 28.
