Rayani Air (Langkawi) is a Malaysian start-up looking to launch operations in January 2015. Local media reports the airline, which will be Malaysia's first boutique airline, will initially operate one Fokker 50 on flights between Melaka and Penang, Langkawi, Kota Kinabalu, Kota Bharu and Kuching.
As a result of past experience with its failed Melaka Air (Batu Berendam) venture, the Malacca state government has offered to subsidize the flights should they fail to gain traction. Government is also keen to see airlines use Batu Berendam given that the airport has not had any scheduled operators since the departure of Indonesia's Sky Aviation (Indonesia) (Jakarta Halim) earlier this year.
