European Coastal Airlines (Split) commenced scheduled operations on Wednesday, August 27, with seaplane flights from Split to the island of Jelsa in the Adriatic. EX-YU Aviation News reports the start-up will operate the route 4x daily using a DHC-6 seaplane.

“Initially we will connect Split Airport with Jelsa at least four times daily. Jelsa will be connected directly with Ancona twice daily. The northern network will connect Zadar (initially Zadar Airport), Rab, Pula, Zagreb Franjo Tuđman Airport and Ancona. As soon as it is possible, we will add further destinations,” ECA CEO, Klaus Dieter Martin, told local media.

Following a protracted certification battle that lasted almost 13 years, the airline secured its Air Operators Certificate (AOC) from the Croatian Civil Aviation Agency earlier last month.
