Luxair (LG, Luxembourg) and five other operators serving Rimini, Italy, will be forced to suspend their operations there with effect from November 1. The Italian civil aviation authority (L'Ente Nazionale per L'Aviazione Civile - ENAC) said in a statement last week that with the Adriatic airport's current operator, Aeradria, facing imminent bankruptcy, it would expedite the process of licensing a new firm, Air Riminum, to take over management at the earliest date possible.
Aeradria's financial woes have also had a serious knock-on effect in the Italian aviation industry with Livingston Air (Milan Malpensa) having partially blamed its decision to suspend operations earlier this month on its inability to access funds owed to it by Aeradria.
Rimini airport, which also doubles as the Republic of San Marino's primary air gateway, is a popular charter destination with Transaero Airlines (Moscow Vnukovo), Thomas Cook Airlines Belgium (Brussels National), Air Berlin (1991) (Berlin Tegel), Aeroflot (SU, Moscow Sheremetyevo), and Ural Airlines (U6, Ekaterinburg), all offering flights.
